Fortnite Chapter 6 is officially among us! With the new chapter, we are getting a new Japan-styled map, new mechanics, and an exciting new loot pool. A standout though, is the soon-to-be-released OG Fortnite game mode that will be complete with its own Battle Pass and sticking around for good this time! As Fortnite continues to evolve into a multifaceted gaming experience, with new modes and features introduced each season, the sheer variety can feel overwhelming—especially when it comes to navigating multiple Battle Passes. This is where Fortnite Crew will shine. The monthly subscription service, which was already packed with benefits, is now more valuable than ever!
The Evolution of Fortnite: From Chapter 5 to Now
One year ago, when Fortnite released Chapter 5, it came with a complete overhaul that gave us new game modes such as LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival, and then later on adding Fortnite Reload. Each game mode came with its own quests and rewards, LEGO and Festival even got their own pass.
Fortnite has come a long way since its release in 2017, and this is just the beginning. They are evolving into a one-stop hub for all gaming niches, and given their trajectory, it would not be far-fetched to predict they will become the definitive “Meta-verse” and even incorporate VR to give us the real-life “Ready Player One” experience.
The OG Fortnite Mode: A Blast from the Past with a Fresh Twist
Fortnite players got their first taste of OG in November 2023. The game mode, which is a throwback to the game’s first chapter, recreates the original map, weapons, mechanics, and overall gameplay that first made the game a global phenomenon. This appealed to the nostalgia of those who played back then but also offered a simpler, more toned-down version of the game for those who have gotten irritated with the current loop pools and over-the-top mythics. Now, with Chapter 6 we will be getting OG Fortnite as a permanent game mode with its own Battle Pass!
The Battle Pass Conundrum: Too Many Choices?
So now, in Chapter 6 we will have a Battle Royale Pass, an OG Pass, a LEGO pass, and a Festival pass. As exciting as this is, the only downside is that many if not most Fortnite players will probably not want to spend their hard-earned money and V-bucks to get more than one pass, much less all four passes. Especially considering they just bumped the price of the Battle Royale pass from 950 to 1,000 V-bucks. Here’s where Crew comes into play.
Fortnite Crew: a Game-Changer in Chapter 6
Fortnite Crew was already loaded with plenty of incentives for gamers to subscribe. For $11.99 a month, you would get the Battle Pass, a monthly exclusive skin, and 1,000 V-bucks on your billing date. Fortnite also has the Crew Legacy sets to incentivize you to remain subscribed. Basically, by activating a Crew Membership with a Legacy Set available, you would unlock the first stage, and every month you’re subscribed unlocks another stage of the set. I got this cool Arctic Fox skin (Volpez) as part of the Winter’s Tricketer Legacy Set:
Now, there is even more incentive to subscribe to Fortnite Crew because starting with Chapter 6, Crew members will gain instant access to not just the main Battle Royale pass, but all 4 Fortnite passes! That is way more value for the Crew Membership than we were getting before and is perfect for those who play more than one of these game modes, making it so you don’t have to pick and choose which pass you get.
The Battle Royale Pass is now 1,000 V-bucks, the LEGO and the Festival passes are each 1,400 V-bucks, and it’s safe to assume the OG Pass will be 1,000 V-bucks as well. This adds up to 4,800 V-bucks if you were to buy all the passes separately. This equates to about $36, triple the cost of the Crew subscription. If you intend to have more than one pass, then Crew membership is a must-have! Note that Crew will bill you every month, but you can cancel after the first month when you’ve gained access to the passes.
Final Thoughts: Is Fortnite Crew Worth It in Chapter 6?
If putting money into Fortnite isn’t your thing, you can absolutely continue to play for free with no downside. However, if you are a dedicated Fortnite player who wants to unlock not 1, but multiple or even all of the passes, the Fortnite Crew is 100% worth it. Not only will you get all the passes, but you’ll be able to hang on to the V-bucks you would have spent, and get an additional 1,000 V-bucks every month. Think about all the extra V-bucks you’ll have to splurge in the shop!
